Venice Adventures

If you are traveling to Italy, Venice is a treasure not to be missed. Venice is an engineering marvel, ornate palaces and marble churches built on top of ancient posts rammed into the very muddy banks of the lagoon. The Venetians were such practical people, escaping the barbarians from the north they managed to build a stunning city in the most inhospitable of places- and what a city it is. Venice is magnificent. Its main square, St Mark’s, can quite clearly be judged the most beautiful in all of Italy – the Doge’s Palace sits overlooking the lagoon next to the magnificent St Marks Basilica – so many treasures in such a small space.

Tuscany Italy

Travel through Tuscany and experience some of the world’s most iconic art and architecture. Immerse yourself in the culture and rich history of the local towns. Enjoy sipping an aperitif in local piazza’s, walk through Tuscan hill towns filled with ancient cobbled stone streets. This region is not only beautiful but also offers the most memorable food and wine.

Italian Textiles

Italy has a rich history of craftsmanship that boasts excellence in both textiles and ceramics. Learn how these incredibly talented artisans have mastered the art of handwoven textiles and precious lace. Take part in hands-on workshops focusing on both fabrics and textiles for the home.

  • Italy is a country of varied splendours; ancient cities, breathtaking landscapes and immersive culture. The best time to visit Italy for you might consider any of these attractions. Do you want to beat the heat in the sparkling Mediterranean, or would you rather time your trip with the November truffle season?

Consider, too, the balance between weather and tourist popularity. Italian summers can be beautifully warm, but they are also tourists’ most popular visiting times. Winters are understandably quiet, but this often means accommodation and attractions are closed. Times either side of the peak summer season - April and May, September and October - balance the weather with smaller crowds. Our Foodie and Foodie tours operate either side of the summer peak.

  • Italy is at once a country of opulence and simple pleasures. But is Italy expensive to visit? Despite its luxurious top-end, Italy isn’t as costly to visit as many other European countries - neighbouring Switzerland and the Scandinavian countries are comfortably more expensive.

If you’re planning your own trip and are happy to do it on a budget, expect to pay somewhere between $80-200 per day. That’s taking into account accommodation, transport, food and activities. Flights will need to be factored in separately. For example, flights from Melbourne to Rome tend to cost around $1000-1500.

With world-renowned food, wine and culture, Italy can be a place of indulgent luxury, and you should plan a budget to suit. In the end, you can easily spend a lot in Italy, but it is not considered an expensive country to visit.

  • From the snowy Alps in the north to the beachside resorts in the south, Italy is a large country. It would be quite easy to spend months slowly winding from one end to the other, but most of us just don’t have the luxury of time.

To truly experience the majesty of this ancient country, you’ll need to prioritise your time. Consider what you’d like to see and do. If wine and food are your thing, an Italy food tour, like our 10 day trip in Rome and Tuscany, will truly satisfy you.

For those looking to see the sights and truly travel the country, our 14-day Foodie and Textile Tour takes in the full length of Italy. We start in Lecca in the southern region of Apulia, taking in tiny towns and picturesque piazzas before ending up in Venice.

  • Italy is simply bursting with unmissable sights and experiences. While you’ll never get to everything in one trip, there are some definite highlights to consider.

Foodies should consider the rolling hills and wineries of Tuscany an essential pilgrimage. The same can be said of fresh Venetian seafood and Roman ristorante, trattoria and osteria.

Those enamoured of natural beauty will gravitate towards the mountains of Abruzzo, the lakes of Lombardy and the stunning Amalfi coast.

For a taste of history, Italy tourist attractions like the Coliseum and the Pantheon in Rome, Venice’s Piazza San Marco and tiny Tuscan villages are all worth seeing in person.
