Varanasi is one of the oldest living cities in the world and the ultimate pilgrimage for Hindus, who believe that to die in the city, is to attain instant salvation. Varanasi is the tract of holy land lying between the Ganga and the Assi rivers.
It is one of the most important pilgrimage centres in India and also a major tourist attraction. Situated on the banks of the sacred Ganges, Varanasi has been a centre of learning and civilisation for over 2000 years. 25 centuries ago Lord Buddha preached his message of enlightenment for the first time in Sarnath, which is just 10kms away from Varanasi.
The Assi river also flows into Ganga. Varanasi is also known as Kashi, the city of light since one of the twelve 'Jyortinglinga's is installed here. Varanasi has been a great cultural centre, especially in the fields of music, learning and the craft of silk weaving.

Welcome to Delhi; India’s most vibrant city. You will be met by your tour director and transferred to your hotel. (Optional)
Day 2: Delhi - Varanasi: (B)
Later this morning arrive into Varanasi. (Domestic / International)
In the afternoon visit to Buddhist holy site of Sarnath, the birthplace of Buddhism.
This evening we attend Ganga Aarti ceremony at the Ghats - the steps leading into the river, with worshippers praying by the light of candles and lanterns near the water’s edge.
Day 3: Varanasi: (B)
This morning we take an early morning boat cruise on river Ganges. Sunrise on the Ganges is a soul-lifting experience. The western banks of Ganges has a string of Ghats - the chain of stone steps, all built with pavilions, palaces and terraces, most of which are mainly used as Dharamsalas where the pilgrims stay during their visit to the holy city. At dawn, the Ghats are abuzz with activity of the devotees performing their ablutions in the river or offering prayers to the rising sun and performing other religious rituals. Later, we visit the Vishwanath temple, also called the golden temple because of the gold-plating on its roof.
Day 4: Varanasi - Delhi
Later this afternoon fly to Delhi.
